I listened to The National's song "Not in Kansas" on repeat while painting this. Sometimes I get stuck on a song and play it over and over when I paint. The song has a line "The flowers cover over everything" which is actually a reference to "The Flowers of Guatamala" an antiwar song by R.E.M. So are flowers an antidote to war? A distraction? When the flowers grow over do we forget that it happened?
